The Fedoskino tradition derives
from Russian classical painting
and miniatures of the 18th and
early 19th centuries and the
Russian folk arts. Three or four
layers of oil paint are applied.
This multilayer painting results
in a tonal richness and glowing
of the colours. The paints are
applied in thick opaque layers
or in "through - paints" with
translucent paints over mother
of pearl which makes the colours
seem to sparkle from within. |

Eastern counterparts (Japan,

miniature industry. In the late 18th
century merchant I.P.Govorov
set up a factory of lacquer
production in the village of
Danilkovo (now Fedoskino) near
Moscow. Fedoskino - a small
village in the Moscow region has
been renowned for its artistic
traditions for over 200 years. The
themes of Fedoskino miniature
are different. There are fairy tales,
village scenes, landscapes,
portraits, decorative ornamental
genre. The works of Fedoskino
artists are displayed in the
country's central museums and
national and foreign exhibitions.
Many of them have won high awards. |
